Artek is the legendary former young pioneer camp (now an international children center) on a shore of the Black Sea in the town of Hurzuf located on the Crimean peninsula. It was established in 1925 and then became one of the world’s largest camps for children.
Below are photos made at the post-Soviet Artek by the famous French photographer Claudine Doury in the period from 1994 to 2003. Her work was published in the book ‘Artek — A summer in Crimea‘ and reviews about it were kind of ambiguous. Some people were being in awe, the other ones were disgusted.
