National cuisine, dances, contests, and lots of fun. Belarusian girls, women, and also some men recently took a part in the annual Festival of Mermaids in one of villages in the Republic of Belarus. As early as in the pagan time this festival was held for choosing the mermaid which was becoming responsible for the harvest. But now of course the festival is more like a local tradition and people still keep it just for fun.
