Kizhi is a unique island with old wonderful churches and buildings located on Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia, Russia. The most popular and significant place there is the Kizhi Pogost, a historical site dating from the 17th century. The pogost includes two large wooden churches (the 22-dome Transfiguration Church and the 9-dome Intercession Church) and a bell-tower.
Excluding the pogost, almost all the ancient chapels, houses, mills were moved to the island from different Karelian villages. Now, the entire island and the architectural landmarks form a national open-air museum with more than 80 historical wooden structures. All this makes Kizhi a really beautiful place.
